Passengers travelling between Norwich, Poringland, Bungay and Halesworth are being asked to check new Charcoal Line timetables ahead of changes taking effect from Sunday 1 November.

First Bus says the revisions include additional peak-time journeys and changes to Monday-to-Friday running times. The operator describes the package as intended to improve capacity and reduce overcrowding.

What changes on each route

Routes 40 and 40A will have a revised weekday timetable. Extra 40A journeys will run from Poringland towards Norwich in the morning and from Norwich towards Poringland in the afternoon.

Some peak-time journeys serving Halesworth and Bungay will also run at different times. Routes 41 and X41 receive revised weekday timetables, with changes to selected peak-time services.

Most journeys currently numbered 41A will instead operate as route 41. First says additional 40A journeys will serve the Stoke Holy Cross section.

That makes the route number as important as the departure time for people using the affected section. The announcement does not say every 41A journey disappears, and passengers should check the timetable for their particular trip.

Check the date as well as the time

Although the changeover date is a Sunday, the alterations described in the operator’s announcement concern Monday-to-Friday timetables. They should not be read as a promise of extra weekend services.

First’s official Charcoal Line changes page sets out the route changes and links to forthcoming timetables. Check the timetable applying from 1 November before planning a journey after the changeover.
