A Norwich man has been sentenced to 20 months in prison after admitting robbery, burglary and seven theft offences. Chris Cassar, 53, of Thurlby Road, was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court on Thursday 8 October. Norfolk Police released details of the case the following day. According to the police account of the hearing, Cassar stole tools worth about £1,000 from an outbuilding in Ringland. In another offence, he threatened a shop worker before taking cash from a till and cigarettes. The theft offences also included an electric bike and six thefts from shops across Norwich. Police said CCTV footage gathered during their enquiries helped officers identify him. Cassar asked for a further 12 offences to be taken into consideration at sentencing after engaging with Operation Converter, a unit dealing with suspected similar offending. Duncan Etchells, the unit’s police staff supervisor, said Cassar’s actions had affected businesses, their staff and members of the public. The 20-month term is the sentence reported for the case as a whole; it is not a separate sentence for each theft. |
