What people say

“Today, I took my mother out for lunch and suggested visiting The Oak Tree. Although I had not had particularly positive experiences there previously, my mother mentioned that the restaurant had recently changed hands, so I was happy to give it another try. I ordered the Parmesan chicken skewers with chips and salad. Unfortunately, while eating the salad, I discovered a caterpillar amongst the food. My mother immediately brought this to the attention of the waiter. He came over, removed the knife on which the caterpillar had been placed, and provided me with a replacement knife. At that point, I continued eating the chicken but understandably left the remainder of the meal, including the salad. A different waitress subsequently came over and asked whether everything was okay. I explained what had happened, and she apologised. While I appreciate the apology, I was disappointed with the way the situation was handled overall. Finding a caterpillar in a meal is clearly an unacceptable experience, and I would have expected the matter to be dealt with more appropriately and professionally by management, including checking on my wellbeing, acknowledging the seriousness of the incident, and taking appropriate steps to address the issue. I do not feel that the response I received reflected the level of customer service or restaurant etiquette I would reasonably expect in these circumstances. I hope you will take this feedback seriously and review how incidents of this nature are handled in the future.”
