“Update since the reply: and there we have it folks. The hotel had two options here. 1) Listen to the multiple reviews highlighting the problem (so much so that google summary of all reviews mentions this issue), and attempt to fix this. 2) Gaslight customers into believing it is their fault that this is consistently happening and blame them for not using ear plugs. They chose option number 2. It’s up to you if you choose to give a hotel like this custom. My suggestion is to go elsewhere. Original review below: I understand when you sign up to stay at a building touted as “the oldest hotel in Britain” that the rooms may have some quirks to them. In the year 2026 though, having a room in which you can hear every car, every person and every noise on the street outside is unforgivable. Add in the fact you can hear everyone walking past in the corridors and you’re sure to have a truly terrible nights sleep. This is inexcusable. Get double glazing, and spend some money on sound proofing. The service is fine, the breakfast is passable, and the bar is nice enough. But if you want to sleep go elsewhere.”
