What people say

5 out of 5 stars

“Lion wood is a remnant of a once enormous forest that went to the coast. In 1549 the time of Kett’s Rebellion it would have been part of Mousehold. It has ancient oaks , hornbeams and other trees. In spring it has a carpet of bluebells . It’s inside the city boundary in Thorpe Hamlet and entrance is free . It’s possible to do various pleasant circular walks through it, taking in Carey’s Meadow, Pilling park, Kett’s Heights (although an entrance from Gas Hill would help) and Mousehold Heath. Dog friendly, no toilets”
