Book ahead for Norwich South hazardous-waste days this Friday and Saturday |
Free household collections run on 16 and 17 October, with ordinary household and DIY waste excluded during the events. |

Norwich South Recycling Centre will hold free household hazardous-waste collections on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October, with visitors required to book a specific event slot. The events run from 8am to 4pm. They are for waste from households, rather than businesses, groups or organisations. The centre is on Ipswich Road, Norwich, NR4 6FA. The council says access is from the A140/A47 roundabout junction, not the B1113 entrance, and advises visitors not to rely on satnav. Use the hazardous-waste bookingBookings for Norwich South opened at 9am on Thursday 8 October. The hazardous-waste events have their own booking system; a normal recycling-centre appointment is not a substitute. Other household waste and DIY or trade waste will not be accepted at the event sites during these collections. Norwich South’s webpage also warns that ordinary household-waste bookings cannot be made for the two dates. Check what you can bringAccepted items include full or partly full aerosols, antifreeze, bleach, drain cleaners, fertilisers, weed killer and paintbrush cleaner or thinners. Fire extinguishers are limited to two per household. The events do not accept every hazardous item. The council’s exclusions include asbestos, fireworks, fuels, medicines and clinical waste, as well as full or partly full gas bottles and cylinders. If you are unsure about an item, check the official list before travelling rather than assuming it can be accepted because the event is described as hazardous-waste disposal. Booking and later datesUse the council’s hazardous-waste event information to reach the booking page, or call 0344 800 8020. Check its accepted-items and exclusions list before arranging a visit. Norwich North has a later collection on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November. Booking for that event opens at 9am on Thursday 19 November. |
