About
The Belgian Monk opened in December 2000. The main objective was to create something different yet to fit in with the way drinking and dining is changing. It has become a successful and established bar and restaurant, offering customers a choice of a regular selection of some 45 beers together with a selection of special beers. The menu is based on serving only the best products available freshly prepared daily, at realistic prices, in an informal relaxed "friends and family" atmosphere. It provides more than just the meal or drink but a whole Belgian experience. Now owned and run by Wursty Four Biers Ltd the new owners hope to take this fantastic venue to new heights and enhance the service style and offer. Sincerely not to be missed!

“The exterior is rather dilapidated and could do with some renovation - however, some might say it rather Belgian in that respect! (in some areas). We're vegetarian. We ate here having a (bit) small 'Beetroot Wellington, which had a £4.00 reduction if you ordered two meals at once - which cost £32.00 in total for two meals. I ordered a Belgian beer. As my wife is originally from Mons, Belgium, I am very familiar with authentic strong Belgian beers. This place certainly serves great-quality beer, and given their high alcohol percentages—similar to wine—it makes complete sense that they are served in half measures. However, the prices felt quite excessive, sitting at nearly £7.00 for just a (what seemed) half pint. (You can often buy a large Leffe in Tesco for under £3.00!). What was most disappointing, though, was the lack of transparency on the bill. A discretionary service charge was automatically added to our total without any consultation. To the staff member's credit, the charge was removed immediately the moment I challenged it, but it still felt underhand to sneak it on in the first place. Frugal shoppers and budget-conscious visitors should keep a close eye on their receipts before paying. (Though, if you have a 2nd Belgian Beer, you'll be too drunk to care...probably..;0)”
